In a by-election shocker, the Liberal Party lost a significant stronghold in the riding of Toronto-St. Paul, marking a major defeat for Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. The seat, held by the Liberals since 1993, was lost to Conservative candidate Don Stewart. Leslie Church, the Liberal candidate, was unable to retain the constituency, losing by 500 votes. This is a serious blow to a party already struggling with rapidly declining support. The question is, will Trudeau step down, not likely. Who could be the next leader of the Liberal party? The party is so tainted, who would want the job?

It seems the two at the top of the totem pole, Trudeau and Deputy Prime Minister, Chrystia Freeland are the very two that Canadians dislike the most. Freeland said at a presser the day before the results came in, that voting conservative was making a “cold, cruel and small” choice. Kind of sounds like she’s describing herself…in the end, the voters chose wisely after all.
